Configuring a CalComp M971/M981 on Windows NT 3.5 (Apple Ethertalk).
Technical Support Hot Line 1-800-CALCOMP (800-225-2667). Updated 21 November 1995
Printing to the 981/971 from Windows NT using Apple Ethertalk 981/971's
with firmware 4.0 and above support Windows NT 3.1 and 3.5 through NT's
built-In Ethertalk Support. (Appletalk over Ethernet). Windows NT 3.5
(Daytona) provides an LPD daemon which can also be used with the 981/971
versions 3.5 and above.
Note: The 971/981 does not process binary data formats, such as CCRF and
binary PostScript data. The 971/981 does process other formats, such as
PCI/907, ASCII PostScript, HPGL/L, HPGL/S, HPGL/2, and PCL5.
To setup a M981/M971 Ethernet printer device on Windows NT 3.5,
perform the following:
1. Open the Print Manager.
2. From the Menu bar, click on Printer and select Create Printer
from the pull-down menu.
3. Enter a Printer Name.
4. Click on the arrow in the box next to Printer Driver and select the
printer driver that matches your printer.
5. If desired, enter a description for the printer in the Description field.
6. Click on the arrow next to Print To and scroll down past LPT1, LPT2, etc.
You may already see the Ethertalk printers displayed as:
zonename;calcomp-serial-xx-xx-xx
zonename;calcomp-parallel-xx-xx-xx
If so, then select the parallel or serial printer as desired.
If not, then select "Other".
Select Appletalk Printing Devices from the pop-up window and click OK.
Select the default zone as defined by your Appletalk router
(if applicable), then select the 981/971 printer from the list.
NOTE: If you do not see "Appletalk Printing Devices" listed in the pop-up
window, then you need to first configure "Services for Appletalk" and
then reboot the server before you can add an Ethertalk printer.
7. If desired, make the printer a shared resource with the check-box and
fields at the bottom of the window.
To install "Services for Appletalk" support on Windows NT 3.5, perform
the following steps:
1. Open the Control Panel and select the Network icon.
2. Click on the Add Software button in the "Network Software and
Adapter cards" box.
3. Select "Services for Appletalk" from the network software pull-down
list, and then click Continue.
4. Click the check box next to "Services for Appletalk" (an "X" should
appear in it) to select this component, and then click Continue.
5. Insert the driver diskette or the CD-ROM driver disc and load the
drivers.
6. When the drivers have loaded, reboot the system.
