Configuring a CalComp M971/M981 on Windows NT 3.5 (LPD).

Windows NT 3.5 supports printing to lpd printer or print servers.
All CalComp M971/M981's with firmware 3.5 or above will work under
Windows NT 3.5.

1. To install lpd support on Windows NT 3.5

  - Open Control Panel and select the Network icon.
  - Click the Add Software button in the "Network Software and
    Adapter cards" box.
  - Select "TCP/IP Protocol and Related and component" from the
    network software pulldown list, and then click Continue.
  - Click the check box next to "TCP/IP Network Printing support"
    (an "X" should appear in it) to select this component, and then
    click Continue.
  - Insert the driver diskette or CD-ROM disc and load the drivers.
  - When the drivers have loaded, reboot the system.
 
2. Set the IP address on the M971/M981.
 
  - From the DOS prompt enter 
    ARP -s [IP Address for 981/971] [981/971 Ethernet Address][Host Address].
    Example:  ARP -s 140.120.10.100  00-C0-E2-00-01-4D 140.120.10.001
  - From the Accessories group in Program Manager, select the Telnet icon.
  - Select Connect, then select Remote System.
  - Enter the IP Address for the 981/971: (Example 140.120.10.100)
    Enter 2002 for port:
  - Click on the Connect button.
  - Type ! to enter monitor.
  - Type yes to enter monitor.
  - Enter i and the IP Address (Example  i 140.120.10.100)
    to set the M971/M981 IP address.
  - Enter r to reset M971/M981.
 
3. To add an lpd printer using the M971/M981 to Windows NT 3.5
 
  - Open the Control Panel and select the Printers icon.
  - From the menu bar, click on Printers and select Create Printers.
  - Enter the name you wish to give this printer in the Name Field.
  - Select the printer driver from the pulldown list next to Printer Driver.
  - In the Print To: box, scroll down the list and select Other.
  - Select the LPR Port from the "Print Destinations" pop-up window and then
    click on the OK button.
  - Enter the IP address of the M971/M981 in the Name or address of host
    providing the lpd field.
  - Enter the appropriate queue name* in the Name of Printer for the 
    M981/M971.
 
* Valid queue name:
 
raw   Send data with no header and no translation. Use raw-p for parallel and
      raw-s for serial.
pcl   Assumes the data is PCL and sends a text banner.  No carriage returns
      are added and a formfeed is sent at the end of the job unless it is
      suppressed through the monitor. Use pcl-p for parallel and pcl-s
      for serial.
ps    Writes postscript, and sends a Control+D at the end of the print job.
      Also sends a PostScript banner page at the end of the print job.
      Both of these can be suppressed using telnet via the monitor. Use ps-p
      for parallel and ps-s for serial.
