What driver to use for their system or application (5902/5902A/5902E/5902G).

What driver to use for their system or application.

A. The 5902 and 5902E accept the following protocol emulations:
Uncompressed SFR 1, VDI, and Epson FX-80 (Text only).

B. The 5902A and 5902G accept the following protocol emulations:
Uncompressed SFR 1, Compressed SFR 1, VDI, Epson FX-80 (Text only),
and PCI (907) with no CDCL support.

C. For DOS-based programs:

      1. If using Harvard Graphics or Freelance, VDI is supported for all
            5902 series printers.

      2. If using AutoCAD, either the DOS or Windows version:

            a. For the 5902 or 5902E, there are no drivers available.

            b. For the 5902A or 5902G, use a CalComp Pen Plotter 104x
                  driver.
Use the driver that was included with the AutoCAD software.

Note: The printer must be configured when using the printer in
PCI mode. The CalComp Web site (http://www.calcomp.com) has
a setup program (file name: SETUP.ZIP) to accomplish this.

D. For Windows 3.x, 95, and NT-based programs:

      1. Zenographics makes a driver, called Superprint. Currently, they
have a driver for Windows 3.x. They are developing one for
Windows 95 and NT. These drivers may be used with the printer,
provided that the correct firmware is installed in the printer.
To determine the firmware revision in the printer, output a
test plot by performing the following steps:

            a. With the printer power off, press and hold in the EJECT
button and turn the printer power on.

            b. Continue to hold the EJECT button for about five seconds.

            c. The printer will print an internal test plot.

            d. The top of the test plot will display the printer model:
either COLORMASTER (5902/5902E) or PLOTMASTER (5902A/5902G).

            e. The firmware revision number should appear in the lower
right corner of the test plot.

            f. Use the following table to determine if the firmware needs
                  to be upgraded:

                  COLORMASTER (5902/5902E)

                    Firmware
                    printed on
                    test plot Upgrade required
                    ==========   ========================================
                    908151 No.
                    710161 No.
                    705191 No.
                    608071 Requires f/w update (part # 14616-1005).

                  PLOTMASTER (5902A/5902G)

                    Firmware
                    printed on
                    test plot Upgrade required
                    ==========   ========================================
                    8040401 No.
                    8010401 Requires f/w update (part # 11791-1008).
                    705191 Requires f/w update (part # 11791-1008).
                    80404GPC No.
                    80104GPC Requires f/w update (part # 11790-1009).
                    70519GPC Requires f/w update (part # 11790-1009).

Note: If the firmware code was not printed on the test plot or
is not listed above, then the rasterizer board must be
replaced (part # 21523-502-100). Rasterizer boards are
                  expensive.

            g. The firmware and/or rasterizer board, if needed may be
                  ordered from CalComp (1-800-CALCOMP).

            h. The Superprint driver may be ordered from Zenographics
                  (1-800-566-7468).

E. For Macintosh based programs:

      1. If vector (line art) is desired, then a MacPlot driver from
Microspot will work for the 5902A or 5902G series printers.

            a. The driver may be ordered from Microspot (1-800-MAC-PLOT).

            b. An ImageWriter I cable will be required to connect from the
8-pin mini-din connector on the Macintosh to the serial port
                  on the printer.

      2. If vector (line art) is not desired for the 5902A or 5902G, or for
any type of output on the 5902/5902E series plotters, there are
            no drivers available.
