Ext.PS(87225EG):Test page output procedure; Check 87225EG disk/memory size.
A. The External Adobe PostScript Interpreter (Model 87225EG) contains a
built-in function to produce a test page on the plotter. For this
model, the documentation refers to this as a Start Page.
1. The Start Page, when output, will list the 65 built-in PostScript
fonts, a graphic of the Ecografix 53436G plotter, and statistical
data (the PostScript version/revision, memory contained in the
87225EG, resolution, page count, serial communication
parameters, Ethernet address, and disk space).
2. If a component or connector within the External PostScript
Interpreter should fail, a Start Page may be output and the
values printed on the plotter may be examined.
a. For example: If the SCSI cable to the disk drive is not
connected, the disk size will show a value of zero. If
this is should occur, then follow the steps outlined in the
Adobe PostScript Level 2 Interpreter User's Guide by
performing the following:
i. Unplug the power cord to the Interpreter.
ii. Remove the cover of the Interpreter.
iii. Verify that the cable connectors are tight to the
SCSI disk drive.
iv. Replace the cover back on the Interpreter.
v. Reconnect the power cord to the Interpreter.
vi. Output a Start Page again to examine the disk size.
vii. If the disk size is still incorrect, then the SCSI
drive might be defective.
B. To print a Start Page, perform the following steps:
1. Ensure that the Ecografix 53436EG plotter is set up.
a. If necessary, load media into the plotter.
b. Turn on the plotter power and wait for it to display
ONLINE.
2. Turn on the power to the Interpreter (87225EG).
NOTE: The initialization process takes about one minute and
follows this sequence at the interpreter:
a. All interpreter lights on the front panel turn on for
approximately 10 seconds.
b. The Busy, Error, and Bypass lights turn off. Only the Power
light remains on for approximately 10 seconds.
c. The Busy light turns on for approximately 45 seconds.
d. The Busy light turns off.
e. The interpreter is now ready to print a Start Page or
receive a PostScript job.
3. Ensure that no other jobs are being sent to the interpreter.
4. Initiate a Start Page by pressing and holding the BYPASS switch
until the BUSY light turns on. The BUSY light will begin
flashing.
5. The Start Page will be output to the plotter.
6. When the interpreter is idle, the Start Page may be output at
anytime by pressing and holding the BYPASS button for at least
three seconds.
