Setup AutoCAD 9, 10, or 11 with 104X Plotters:


AutoCAD Release 9, 10, or 11 with 104X Plotters :

Hardware Connection Requirements:
  PC Host Computer with an operational serial port (i.e. COM1, COM2).
  A straight through serial cable (50 ft. max), no wires are crossed. 
  Must have pins 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 20. Connect to plotter TO DTE HOST port.
  HP Plotter serial cables do not work with CalComp Plotters. 
  CalComp 104X Plotter must be connected to a PC directly for this
  configuration.  Network systems, serial buffer boxes, and/or plot spool
  programs may require different communication parameter settings.

1. Setup 104X Plotter:
   - Turn Dip Switches 2, 4, and 5 ON, set the rest off. 
     (They are located at the back of the plotter).
   - Power ON the plotter. Install pen(s) in turret and place turret in the
     plotter. Load media.
   - Press SET UP button. Press 7 for I/O communications, 
     then press ENTER button.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Parity and  Bits. 
    Press 2 for EVEN PARITY,
     ENTER, and 7 for BITS, ENTER.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Stop Bits and Clock, 
     Press 1 for Stop Bits,
     ENTER, and 0 for Clock, ENTER.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Interface Type.
     Press 0 for Serial, ENTER,  00
     for IEEE address, ENTER.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Host Baud Rate and Mode. Enter 9600,
     ENTER, and 0 for PCI Mode, ENTER.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Muting and Checksum. 
     Press NO for muting, YES for Checksum.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Isochronous and EOM.
      Press NO for Isochronous, and 13 for EOM, ENTER.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Direct Control and XON/XOFF. Press YES for
     Direct control NO for XON/XOFF.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for Term. Baud and Duplex. Enter 9600 for Baud,
     ENTER, 0 for full Duplex ENTER.
   - Press NEXT and ENTER for SYNC Codes and Value. Press 2 for Syncs, 
     ENTER, 022 for Value, ENTER.
   - Press SAVE.
   - Choose User # then press ENTER.

2. Use EDIT or EDLIN to Add line to AUTOEXEC.BAT file to define COM Port 
   (Add after PATH statement):
   MODE COM1:9600,E,7,1,P (if using serial port 1). 
   MODE COM2:9600,E,7,1,P (if using serial port 2).

3. Setup AutoCAD Release 9, 10, 11:
   - Start up AutoCAD. At Main Menu choose 5 - Configure AutoCAD.
   - At Configuration Menu choose  - Configure operating parameters.
   - At Operating parameters choose 3 - Default plot file name.  Enter COM1
     (if using serial port 1).
   - Exit to Configuration Menu.
   - At Configuration Menu choose 5 - Configure plotter.
   - Do you want to select a different one ? = YES.
   - From Available Plotters choose 5 - CalComp 906 / 907 / PCI.
   - From Supported Models choose 1 - 104X Plotter.
   - Number of pens is 8.
   - Step Size per inch is 2032.
   - Do you want to use XON/XOFF = YES.
   - Enter port name, or address in hexadecimal = COM1 
     (if using serial port 1).
   - Would you like to calibrate your plotter ? = NO.
   - Write the plot to a file ? = YES.
   - Size Units ( Inches or Millimeters) = I (Inches).
   - Plot Origin in inches = 0.00,0.00.
   - Enter size or Width, Height in inches = 34.4, 22.4 (for 36x24 sheet).*
   - Rotate plot (0 - 90 - 180 - 270) = 0.
   - Do you want to change anything ? = NO.
   - Pen width in inches = 0.010.
   - Adjust area fill boundaries for pen width ? = NO.
   - Remove hidden lines ? = NO.
   - Plotted Inches = Drawings Units or Fit = F (Fit).
   - Exit to Configuration Menu.   Exit to main Menu.
   - Keep Configuration Changes = YES.

* The clip limits for the 104x plotter are 0.8 inch on all four sides of the
media.  When setting the paper size for ACAD, select a user size and set the 
size to the paper size, minus the clip limits.  Example: 36 in. by 24 in. 
media will have a user size of  34.4 in. by 22.4 in.
