Ext.PS(87225): PC (DOS/Windows) Software Installation Guidance.
A. The External Adobe PostScript Interpreter contains nine diskettes for
DOS/Windows. The README.1ST file on the EcoGrafix Adobe PostScript
Interpreter Microsoft Installation diskettes (Windows 3.1 or Windows
95), describes the purpose of each of the diskettes. The following
summarizes the purpose of each of these diskettes:
1. EcoGrafix Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows 3.1
Installation diskette.
a. This diskette provides the following:
i. The Adobe PostScript driver appropriate for the
Windows 3.x operating system.
ii. PPD files: CalComp EcoGrafix/PS
The PPD file is selected after loading
the driver. Perform the following from the Adobe
PostScript Printers icon in the Control Panel:
ii.1. Select the disk path from the Install
PostScript Printer from PPD window.
ii.2. Select the appropriate Printer Description for
roll feed or cut sheet media
(e.g., CalComp EcoGrafix/PS).
ii.3. Click on the Install button.
b. The README.WRI and README.TXT files on the Windows 3.1
Installation diskette, provide the necessary documentation
for installing this driver and PPD files.
c. If connecting to a network, be sure to disable form
feeds, tabs, and banners. To accomplish this, perform the
following steps.
i. From Program Manager, double-click on Main, double-
click on Control Panel, and double-click on
Printers.
ii. Select the CalComp EcoGrafix/PS printer, click on
Connect, click on Network, click on NetWare, select
the appropriate LPT printer connection, and click on
Options.
iii. The Printer Options dialogue box will be displayed.
Remove the X in the Form feed, Enable tabs, and
Enable banner selections.
iv. Click on OK to close the Printer Options dialogue
box.
v. Click on Close to close the Network - Printer
Connections dialogue box.
vi. Click on OK to close the Connect Network Printer
dialogue box.
vii. Click on the OK button to close the Connect dialogue
box.
d. If connected to a Model 981 or 971 (included in the
external PostScript Interface), the protocol option needs
to be changed from Default to None. To accomplish this,
perform the following steps.
i. From Program Manager, double-click on Main, double-
click on Control Panel, and double-click on
Printers.
ii. Select the CalComp EcoGrafix/PS printer, click on
Setup, click on the PostScript tab at the top of the
dialogue box, and select None (Apple Talk) for
Protocol Options.
iii. Click on the OK button. Click on the Close button to
close the Printers dialogue box.
2. EcoGrafix Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows 95
Installation diskette.
a. This diskette provides the Adobe PostScript driver
appropriate for the Windows 95 operating system.
b. The README.TXT on the Windows 95 Installation diskette,
provides the necessary documentation for installing this
driver.
3. Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows Acrobat reader
2.0.
a. The purpose of this software is to view or print the Adobe
PostScript Driver User Guide which is in pdf (Acrobat)
format. The Adobe PS User Guide only applies to the
Windows 3.1 installation. If using Windows 95, then refer
to the driver documentation that came with Windows 95.
b. The README.TXT file on the Acrobat Reader diskette
provides the necessary documentation for installing this
software.
c. After executing the ACROREAD.EXE file from Windows 3.1,
the program will create a documentation file,
README_R.TXT, which can be viewed or printed from the
Windows Write program.
4. Adobe PostScript Driver 3.0 User Guide for Windows.
a. This diskette contains the Adobe PS User Guide
documentation file. It only applies to the Windows 3.1
installation. If using Windows 95, then refer to the
driver documentation that came with Windows 95.
5. Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows Adobe Type
Manager program disk.
a. The purpose of this software is to install fonts for use
with Windows applications.
b. The three Adobe Type Manager font diskettes contain the
font library. Depending on which fonts are loaded, all, or
a portion of the font diskettes may be used by the
INSTALL.EXE program on this diskette.
c. The INSTALL.EXE program allows the user to select a target
directory for storing the PostScript outline fonts as well
as a target directory for storing the font metrics files.
Either use the defaults displayed or change, as desired.
After executing the INSTALL.EXE program, click on the
Restart Windows button. Windows will restart. Double-click
on the ATM Control Panel icon and select the desired fonts
to install.
d. The README.WRI file on this diskette and the README.TXT
files on Font Disk 1 provide the necessary installation
instructions. Also refer to the ATM Quick Installation
Card.
6. Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows Adobe Type
Manager Font Disk 1 of 3.
a. Contains a README.TXT file which associates the PostScript
name with the DOS filename.
b. Contains PostScript font files, disk one of three. Use
the INSTALL program on the Adobe Type Manager program
diskette to install the fonts.
7. Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows Adobe Type
Manager Font Disk 2 of 3.
a. Contains PostScript font files, disk two of three. Use
the INSTALL program on the Adobe Type Manager program
diskette to install the fonts.
8. Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows Adobe Type
Manager Font Disk 3 of 3.
a. Contains PostScript font files, disk three of three. Use
the INSTALL program on the Adobe Type Manager program
diskette to install the fonts.
9. EcoGrafix Adobe PostScript Interpreter Microsoft Windows
demopage.ps and other PostScript files.
a. This diskette provides the following functions:
i. The CLRWHEEL.PS sample PostScript file may be used
to quickly test the system. The output looks like a
color wheel.
ii. The FORMAT.PS PostScript file may be used to format
the hard disk inside the External PostScript
Controller, in case the disk is replaced.
Note: The internal hard disk shipped with the unit
is pre-formatted and should NOT be reformatted.
iii. The DEMOPAGE.PS PostScript file may be used to send a
demonstration plot to the plotter. The output is
a D-size demonstration page of the EcoGrafix plotter.
iv. The SENDPS.EXE program may be used to send a
PostScript file to a designated output port.
