Loading roll-feed media into the plotter

Loading roll-feed media into the plotter; Roll-feed media jams after loading.
A. The Operators Manual for the TechJET 5500 plotter/printer contains
the basic instructions with pictorial descriptions for loading
roll-feed media. If necessary, please refer to it when following
this procedure.
1. Load roll media onto the roll media adapter.
a. Ensure that the media engage/release lever is up,
the dust cover is closed, and power is applied to the plotter.
Wait until the plotter has completed the initialization
cycle and the plotter displays "Unloaded".
Note: Lifting the dust cover during media loading or while
plotting will cause the plotter to stop operations.
b. Obtain the roll of media to be loaded.
i. Because oil transferred from touching media can
affect plot quality, please try to avoid overhandling
the media.
c. Place the roll of media onto the roll media adapter.
i. Facing the plotter and with the fixed stopper on the
right, the roll should be loaded with the media
rolling over the top of the roll toward you.
ii. The plotter/printer uses media with a two inch core
with a maximum full media roll diameter of four inches.
iii. The media roll should fit snugly to the fixed stopper
end.
iv. The removable stopper should fit snugly into the media
roll. If forced too tightly, it may be difficult to
remove.
2. Load the roll media into the plotter/printer and feed the media into it.
a. Open the roll media cover by pushing down on the cover.
b. Install the media roll by first pushing the removable stopper
end of the media roll assembly into the left (farthest from
control panel) roll media socket holder, and then fitting the
fixed stopper end of the media roll assembly into the right
(nearest to control panel) roll media socket holder.
c. Examine the clearance between the left roll media socket
holder and the removable stopper. If necessary, remove the
media roll and press the removable stopper to aquire more
clearance.
i. If there is insufficient clearance, the media roll
may bind on the roll media socket screws, causing
media jamming to occur.
d. Unwind a section of media and thread the leading edge into
the plotter/printer.
i. The leading edge of the media should be smooth and
straight. Cut off any wrinkled or crooked media.
ii. Roll-feed media is to be inserted into the lower
position of the V-shaped opening. (The upper
position of the V-shaped opening is for cut-sheet
media).
iii. Keep the right edge of the media within 0.25 inches
of the loadline scribed on the right side of the platen
when starting the media into the plotter/printer.
iv. Align the media such that it is coming off the roll
straight and is fed into the plotter straight.
v. When loading roll media, it is more important for it
to roll straight than to be exactly in line with the
loadline.
vi. If the plotter/printer detects skewed media, it will
prompt the user to align the media edges before the
end of the roll media loading cycle.
e. A sensor within the plotter/printer will detect the presence of
media and will display: LOADING PLEASE WAIT...
Media will then be drawn into the plotter. A time delay of a
second or two is normal.
