Plotter does not recognize print head is installed or hangs on initialization.
Plotter displays one of the following:
THE HEAD IS ACCESSIBLE NOW
PLEASE INSTALL PRINT HEAD
or, plotter will not complete initialization on power-up.
A. If one of the above condition occurs after a print head/ink cartridge
has already been installed, perform the following:
1. Move the carriage assembly area to the exchange position by
perfoming the following steps:
a. With the plotter power on and the plotter displays either:
ONLINE or UNLOADED, press the MENU button until the plotter
displays: MANUAL.
b. Press the left arrow key on the plotter. The carriage assembly
will move to the exchange position.
2. Inspect the electrical contact points of the print cartridge.
Perform the following:
a. Lift the Cartridge Locking Lever on the carriage assembly
and remove the print head/ink cartridge.
b. Turn off the plotter power.
c. With a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol,
clean the print head electrical contacts located on the
carriage assembly.
Also, clean the print head electrical contacts located on
the print head.
d. Reinstall the print head into the carriage assembly, and
lower the Cartridge Locking Lever on the carriage assembly.
Note: The Cartridge Locking Assembly should operate freely.
If it binds or offers resistance, the print head may not be
installed correctly.
i. The print head should be positioned with the electrical
contacts of the print head on the lower right side.
ii. The indention on the right side of the print head is
to be placed on the gray mounting rod on the carriage
assembly.
iii. Press lightly on the middle of the print head to seat
the print head in the carriage assembly and slowly
lower the Cartridge Locking Lever to lock the print head
in place.
e. Turn on the power to the plotter.
f. If the plotter still displays an error, then there may be
a problem with that particular print head.
i. Check by replacing the print head with another one.
g. If the problem is still not resolved, the plotter requires
service.
