Configuring a CalComp M971 on Windows NT 4.0 (LPD).

Windows NT 4.0 supports printing to lpd printer or print servers. All CalComp M971 with firmware 3.5 or above will work under Windows NT 4.0.
1. To install lpd support on Windows NT 4.0
- Open Control Panel and select the Network icon.
- Click the Services button and check to see if TCP/IP Printing
is installed. If so go on to step 2.
- Select Add then choose Microsoft TCP/IP Printing and click on
Ok.
- It will then ask for the location of your NT files. You will
need to tell it where to look , either your cdrom, floppy, or network.
- When the drivers have loaded, reboot the system.
2. Set the IP address on the M971/M981.
- From the DOS prompt enter
- ARP -a ( To see if you have an arp table, if not then PING an
existing device on the network. This will create a table)
- ARP -s [IP Address for 981/971] [981/971 Ethernet Address]
Example: ARP -s 140.120.10.100 00-C0-E2-00-01-4D
- Type in TELNET (ip address for the plotter) 2002
(Example : TELNET 140.120.10.100 2002)
- Type ! to enter monitor.
- Type yes to enter monitor.
- Enter i and the IP Address (Example i 140.120.10.100)to
set the M971/M981 IP address.
- Enter r to reset M971/M981.
3. To add an lpd printer using the M971/M981 to Windows NT 4.0
- Open the Control Panel and select the Printers icon. - Select Add Printer.
- Make sure My Computer is selected and click on Next. - In Available Ports select Add Port.
- Select LPR Port then click on Ok.
- Enter the IP address for the 971 in the first window.
- Enter raw (lowercase)for the name of the printer or
queue.
- Select Ok then select Close on Printer Ports. - Select Next.
- Select Have Disk and go to location of Calcomp driver.(a:
or directory on hard drive).
- Select Ccsetup.inf and then Open
- Select Ok and pick your plotter/printer model - Select Next
- Select Next.
- Select whether you want it set as default(probably not)
then Next.
- Select Shared if your going to be sharing and enter a
sharename, best if name is kept short.
- Select Next.
- Select No to Print Test Page. Optional if port is
correct.
