A.    If there are white lines through the plots, then see also notes on
      white lines.

B.    Check if the printer is set for high speed mode (HS indicator is lit,
      HQ indicator is not lit).
      
      1.    If HQ is not lit, press the On line button to turn off the On
            line indicator.
      
      2.    Press the Print Mode indicator until the HQ indicator is lit
            (high quality mode) or
      
            both HS and HQ indicators are lit (super high quality mode).
      
      3.    Press the On line button to turn on the On line indicator.

C.    Examine the media being used. A good 20 lb. bond media is required for
      good output.

D.    If the plot quality is good, but the output is gray, then determine if
      the problem is software related or hardware related:
      
      1.    Using a good quality bond paper, perform the self-test on the
            printer as described in the User's Guide (page 3-11), or perform
            the following:
            
            a.    First turn off the power on the printer.
            
            b.    Press and hold the On Line and Print Mode buttons.
            
            c.    Press the Power button while holding down on the On Line
                  and Print Mode buttons until the beeper sounds.
      
      2.    Examine the output.  If the output is gray or too light, then the
            print head may be defective.
            
            a.    Try cleaning the print head (see notes on white lines, or
                  refer to User's Guide, page 3-10).
            
            b.    Try another print head.
            
            c.    If problem persists, then the printer requires service.
      
      3.    If the output is acceptable from the self-test but not from the
            software application, then the problem is software related.
            
            a.    If using the TechJET Personal Windows driver, ensure that
                  the settings are correct.
                  
                  i.    In Windows, from Program Manager: double-click on
                        Main, double-click  on Control Panel, double-click on
                        Printers.
                  
                  ii.   Windows will display the Printers dialog box.
                  
                  iii.  From the list of installed printers, select the
                        CalComp TechJET Personal Windows Driver.
                  
                  iv.   Click on the button: Setup. The CalComp TechJET
                        personal dialog box appears.
                  
                  v.    Select resolution = 360 x 360.
                  
                  vi.   Click on the button: Options.
                  
                  vii.  The Options dialog box appears. Select Print Quality
                        = Letter Quality.
                  
                  viii. Adjust the Intensity Control slider bar to a darker
                        setting.
                  
                  ix.   Set the Dithering radial button to Fine.
            
            b.    If using AutoCAD, ensure that the driver settings are
                  correct.
                  
                  i.    At the command prompt in AutoCAD, type PLOT. Perform
                        the following:
                        
                        i.1.  Click on Device and Default Selection.
                        
                        i.2.  Click on the TechJET Personal driver.
                        
                        i.3.  Click on Change Device Requirements.
                        
                        i.4.  Click on OK for each dialog window that comes
                              up until the dialog box displaying the
                              resolution choices of 180 x 180 and 360 x 360
                              appear.
                        
                        i.5.  If the selection of 180 x 180 was selected,
                              then choose 360 x 360.
                        
                        i.6.  Click on OK until only the Plot Configuration
                              menu is displayed.
                  
                  ii.   The driver provides 255 pens. All of them are
                        initially set to 0.003 inches. Examine the pen widths
                        that are being plotted.
                        
                        ii.1. First verify the units that are being used. The
                              upper right corner of the dialog box shows the
                              paper size. Click on the Inches box to fill in
                              that box selection.
                        
                        ii.2. Click on the Pen Assignment button.  The Pen
                              Assignments dialog box appears.
                        
                        ii.3. If the values are less than .007, try
                              increasing the pen width to a larger value,
                              such as .013 or .018.
                        
                        ii.4. At the Pen Assignments dialog box, click on the
                              button: OK.
                  
                  iii.  At the Plot Configuration dialog box, click on the
                        button: OK to plot the drawing.
