Not communicating or cannot print from a Macintosh.

A. If the printer does not show up in the Chooser, then the cable or port
on the computer may be defective.
1. Try another cable.
2. If this is the only device connected to the computer, then the
port on the computer may be defective. Try connecting to another
computer.
3. If another output device is available, try connecting it to the
computer. If it does not show up in the Chooser, there might be
a problem with the operating system and/or driver. Contact the
software manufacturer for assistance.
4. If still unsuccessful getting the 6603PS/6613PS to show up in the
Chooser, then either there is a software problem with the
software driver, its installation, or the port on the printer may
be defective. If the port on the printer is defective, the
printer requires service.
B. Check the firmware revision of the printer. Turn off the printer, wait
3 seconds, and then turn the power back on. The printer will display
the firmware revision.
1. If the firmware revision is 232.8, the printer will not work with
LaserWriter driver versions from 7.1 to 7.2. The usual error
reported to the Macintosh is: POSTSCRIPT ERROR: INVALID ACCESS...
after which the printer disappears from the Chooser. To remedy
the problem, use either:
a. The System 7.0 LaserWriter driver that came with the
printer.
b. The LaserWriter 8.x driver. This driver will require a
version 4 PPD file. The LaserWriter driver 8.x driver and
versions 3 and 4 PPD files are available on the CalComp
Web Site http://www.calcomp.com. The file name is CMPS-MAC.HQX.
If only the PPD files are needed, then download file CMPS-PPD.HQX.
Use the MacBinary file transfer option when downloading
files for the Macintosh. The file, once downloaded, is
self-extracting. Simply double-click on the file name icon
and it will create the documentation and driver files.
2. If the firmware revision is 233.1 or 260.1:
a. If using System 7.5, check the following:
i. Determine if a QuickDraw GX driver is being used:
i.1. Examine the current driver being used in the
Chooser.
i.2. If it is called LaserWriter GX, then it is a
QuickDraw GX driver.
ii. If a QuickDraw GX driver is being used, then it must
be disabled or uninstalled.
iii. Use the LaserWriter 8 driver that comes with the
Macintosh. This driver will require a version 4 PPD
file. The LaserWriter driver 8.x driver and versions
3 and 4 PPD files are available on the CalComp Web Site
http://www.calcomp.com. The file name is CMPS-MAC.HQX. If
only the PPD files are needed, then download file
CMPS-PPD.HQX. Use the MacBinary file transfer
option when downloading files for the Macintosh. The
file, once downloaded, is self-extracting. Simply
double-click on the file name icon and it will create
the documentation and driver files.
3. If the problem is not resolved here, then the problem requires
further research.
