What do the 5800/58000 series plotters emulate?

A.   WHAT PLOT COMMAND LANGUAGES DO 5800/58000 PLOTTERS SUPPORT:

     These plotters have 2 plot data ports (1 serial and 1 parallel).
     The port numbered 8503 is the Terminal port. The Terminal port
     CANNOT be used for plot data.

     1.   907/PCI/CCGL (supported both plot data ports)
          The standard or native CalComp vector plot command language.
          907/PCI is the best choice for most CAD applications.

B.   WHAT EMULATION UPGRADE OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE:

     1.   CCRF  (supported on the parallel port only)

          The CalComp Raster Format (CCRF) is supported IF you purchase
          the CCRF upgrade option kit. Please note the following
          conditions required in order to be upgrade your plotter.

          a.   5800 SERIES PLOTTERS:
               5800 series plotters require a new controller AND the
               CCRF ROMPack kit.

               The controller that is required is the XP controller,
               CalComp P/N controller 701460-8. This controller can be
               ordered by calling 1-800-225-2667. The XP controller
               must be installed by a trained CalComp field service
               engineer.

               The P/N for the CCRF ROMPack is 17807-0017. The CCRF
               upgrade kit is processed through CalComp's Service
               Center. The kit requires installation by a CalComp Field
               Service Engineer. If you wish to purchase this upgrade
               kit, call the CalComp Service Center at 1-800-CALCOMP
               (800-225-2667).

          b.   58000 SERIES PLOTTERS:
               The 58000 series plotters require only the CCRF ROMPack
               upgrade kit.

               The P/N for the CCRF ROMPack is 17807-0017. The CCRF
               upgrade kit is processed through CalComp's Service
               Center. The kit requires installation by a CalComp Field
               Service Engineer. If you wish to purchase this upgrade
               kit, call the CalComp Service Center at 1-800-CALCOMP
               (800-225-2667).

          This CCRF option upgrade kit is for compressed CCRF ONLY.
          Uncompressed CCRF is not supported.

     2.   VERSATEC/GREENSHEET INTERFACE

          A Versatec Interface Field Upgrade MOD Kit is available for
          5800/58000 plotters. The order P/N is 700790-9.  An onsite
          installation by a trained CalComp service engineer is
          required.

          SPECIAL NOTE: This Versatec Interface may not be compatible
          with current Versatec raster format plot files. CalComp does
          not guarantee it will work reliably in today's environment.


C.   WHAT COMMONLY USED LANGUAGES (EMULATIONS) ARE NOT  
      SUPPORTED:

     The following emulations/formats are NOT supported by the
     5800/58000 plotters.

     1.   HPGL, HP/GL2, and HP/RTL (not supported)

     2.   POSTSCRIPT  (The CalComp Print Bridge model 86625 IS NOT
          supported)

     3.   TIFF   (not supported)

     4.   CALSG4  (not supported)


D.   WHAT IS THE 907/PCI LANGUAGE?

     1.   907/PCI/CCGL is the native CalComp plot command language. It
          is a vector-based format and is therefore very efficient for
          CAD applications. It is the plot language of choice for most
          if not all CAD programs. 907/PCI/CCGL is most often referred
          to as 907 (or 907/PCI). CCGL stands for CalComp Color Graphics
          Language.

     2.   By strict definition, the 907/PCI format is the complete
          command set for a CalComp pen plotter.

          CCGL is a superset of 907/PCI and includes additional
          (extended) commands which are supported by all CalComp large-
          format raster products. The 5800/58000 series is part of this
          family of CalComp plotters.

          This extended set basically ADDS pen definition and
          color/pattern definition commands to the existing 907/PCI
          language.


E.   WHAT IS THE CCRF LANGUAGE?

     CCRF means CalComp Raster Format. It was specifically designed for
     CalComp's large format raster plotters. It is best used when
     graphic images need to be printed, as opposed to CAD files.
     5800/58000 plotters support compressed CCRF data only.

     1.   DIRECT MODE (Faster plot time and unlimited file size)

          In this mode, the plotter prints the CCRF file as it is
          received. Generally, there is no limit to the size of the CCRF
          file to be printed when you are using DIRECT MODE.

     2.   BUFFERED MODE  (Slowest initial plot time but very fast
          replot. Limited file size)

          In this mode, the plotter stores the CCRF file onto it's hard
          disk before printing it. Therefore, a particular CCRF file (or
          group of CCRF files) cannot exceed the size (or available
          space) of the plotter's hard disk.

          The available space is determined by the number of USER files
          that have been created (each one uses about 60k of space) and
          the number of vector or buffered CCRF files which have been
          sent to the plotter and automatically stored for replot (ALL
          VECTOR JOBS ARE AUTOMATICALLY STORED ON THE PLOTTER"S DISK).

          BUFFERED MODE allows you to replot the CCRF file as many times
          as you like (until the plotter is powered off, then all jobs
          that were stored will be deleted).
