Plotter displays: FATAL SEEK ERROR msg; Drops media; or Will not size media.

A. Verify that CalComp media is being used.

      1. CalComp pens and media are designed to provide optimal pen life,
            plot quality, and plotter performance.

      2. CalComp cannot guarantee quality with other brands of pens and
            media.

B. The plotter will not be able to detect transparent media since it
utilizes photoelectric sensors to sense the media.

      1. To remedy this, apply a strip of masking tape to the back of the
media, positioning it to correspond to the photoelectric media
            sensor locations on the plotter.

            a. There are two media sensors; one for the front platen and
one for the back platen. Each sensor is located
approximately three inches from the right edge of the
                  platen.

      2. If using another vendors media, use between 3 to 5 mil thickness.

C. Perform the following steps to load the media:

      1. If the plotter has a roll-feed capability, ensure that it is
correctly set for cut-sheet media. Perform the following:

            a. Press the SETUP key on the plotter keypad.

            b. Press 1, then 0, then the ENTER key.

            c. The plotter will display:

                  MEDIA?

Press 0 for cut-sheet mode. Press the ENTER key.

            d. Press the SAVE key. Press 1, 2, 3, or 4 to save to that
user number. Press the ENTER key.

            e. Press the AUTO key twice.

      2. Use the keyboard controls or joystick to manually position the
carriage a minimum of five inches from the right side support.
This allows correct carriage sensor position response during the
            automatic load routine.

      3. Facing the front of the plotter, place the media on the platen.
Slide the media under the pinch rollers and the rail until its
length is evenly divided between the front and back.

      4. Align the right edge of the media with the alignment mark on the
            right margin of the platen.

      5. Locate the left pinch roller so that it completely covers the
            left edge of the media.

      6. The right pinch roller is fixed. Verify the right roller
completely covers the right edge of the media.

      7. Lower the pinch roller locking lever into its locked position.

      8. While lightly holding the media in place with the finger of your
left hand, close the safety cover. Press the LOAD key on the
            plotter keypad.

      9. The plotter will lower the pinch rollers to grip the media and
hold it against the drum. Release the media to allow the plotter
            to size the media.

D. If the plotter fails to load, note the following:

      1. The 104X pen plotter will not accept media longer than 48 inches
            in cut-sheet mode.

      2. Bright lights, direct sunlight, or sunlight reflecting off a
bright colored wall onto the plotter can cause the photoelectric
media sensors to have erroneous readings. Dim the lights or
shade the plotter from sunlight and re-attempt the load
            operation.

      3. Try loading smaller size media. Perform the following:

            a. Locate and load cut-sheet media that is A-size (8.5 x 11)
                  or B-size (11 x 17).

            b. If the plotter rejects the small A or B size media, take a
lint free cloth and clean the media sensors. Isopropyl
alcohol may be used on the cloth.

                  i. There are two media sensors; one for the front platen
and one for the back platen. Each sensor is located
approximately three inches from the right edge of the
                        platen.

            c. Re-attempt the load operation.
