What driver to use for their system or application.
A. For AutoCAD prior to version 12 and all DOS-based programs:
1. There are no new drivers to install. In general, use a 907/PCI
driver selection such as a CalComp 104x, 102x plotter driver.
2. An HPGL driver selection may also be used. The plotter supports:
HPGL-L (HP 7595, HP 7580B, HP 7585B), HPGL-S (HP 7440), HPGL/2
(HP 7600), and HPGL/RTL (HP 650C) formats. For a more complete
list of supported HPGL models, refer to the User's Guide,
Appendix D.
B. For AutoCAD 12 or 13 (DOS, Windows or Windows NT):
1. Drivers and documentation are available on the CalComp Web Site
(http://www.calcomp.com). The files are self-extracting. Once
downloaded, simply type the file name, and it will self-extract,
producing the documentation and driver files.
a. File name: PLPCCGUI.EXE for AutoCAD 12 or 13 DOS or
Windows (3.x, 95, or NT).
C. For AutoCAD 14 Windows 95 or Windows NT):
1. Use the ADI driver that comes with your AutoCAD program. However, if you
experience difficulty with certain pen commands, you may download
and use the file PLPCCGUI.EXE. Drivers and documentation are
available on the CalComp website (http://www.calcomp.com).
The file is self-extracting. Once downloaded, simply type the file
name, and it will self-extract, producing the documentation and
driver files.
C. For Windows 3.x based programs, including ACAD LT:
1. Use the CalComp Windows Driver. The file is available from the
CalComp website (http://www.calcomp.com). The file name:
WIN31DRV.EXE). The file is self-extracting. Once downloaded,
simply type the file name, and it will self-extract, producing
the documentation and driver files.
a. The driver supports the CCRF raster format, when using the
parallel port. This is the preferred format. Configure the plotter
to set CCRF Mode to Direct.
2. An HPGL Windows driver selection may also be used. The plotter
supports: HPGL-L (HP7595, HP7580B, and HP7585B), and HPGL-S (HP
7440) formats. The HPGL drivers were included as a part of the
Windows software. CalComp does not distribute HPGL drivers.
D. For Windows 95-based programs, including ACAD LT:
1. Use the CalComp Windows 95 Driver. The file is available from the
CalComp website (http://www.calcomp.com). The file name: WIN95DRV.EXE).
The file is self-extracting. Once downloaded, simply type the file name, and it will
self-extract, producing the documentation and driver files.
a. The driver supports the CCRF raster format, when using the
parallel port. This is the preferred format. Configure the
plotter to set CCRF Mode to Direct.
b. If you are using a CAD application, or have a serial connection to
your host computer, you may prefer the 907/PCI driver. This driver
is available from the CalComp website (http://www.calcomp.com).
The file name is WIN95VEC.EXE. The file is self-extracting, and
contains installation instructions in the README.TXT file.
E. For Windows NT based programs:
1. Use the CCRF/PS NT (raster-mode) driver. The file is available
on the CalComp website (http://www.calcomp.com), file name:
WINNT350.EXE for Windows NT 3.5
NT351X86.EXE for Win NT 3.51 on a PC/compatable
for installing driver from hard disk.
NT351D86.EXE for Win NT 3.51 on a PC/compatable
for installing driver from floppy diskette.
NT40X86.EXE for Win NT 4.0 on a PC/compatable
for installing driver from hard disk.
NT40D86.EXE for Win NT 4.0 on a PC/compatable
for installing driver from floppy diskette.
NT40AL.EXE for Win NT 4.0 on DEC/Alpha.
a. The file is self-extracting. Simply download the file,
type the filename to extract the driver files and
documentation. The files should be extracted to an
empty directory on the hard drive.
b. Start Windows NT.
i. Install the driver via Print Manager, as described in
the README.TXT file.
ii. When the setup program has completed, the driver will
be installed.
c. Set up the plotter.
i. On the plotter, press the MENU button until the
plotter displays: MENU - USE ARROW KEYS TO CHANGE.
ii. Press the down arrow keys until the plotter displays:
PROTOCOL. Press the right (+) key until the plotter
displays CCRF.
iii. Press the down arrow keys until the plotter displays:
INPUT RESOLUTION. Press the right (+) key until the
plotter displays 360.
iv. Press the down arrow keys until the plotter displays:
EOP TIMER. Press the right (+) key until the plotter
displays DISABLED.
v. Press the down arrow keys until the plotter displays:
INPUT BUFFER. Press the right (+) key until the
plotter displays 100K.
vi. Press the down arrow keys until the plotter displays:
SAVE AS USER. Press the right (+) key until the
plotter displays either 1, 2, 3, or 4.
vii. Press the down arrow key once. When the plotter
display changes, the plotter is set up. Load
the media into the plotter and press ON LINE.
2. An HPGL driver selection may also be used. The plotter supports:
HPGL-L (HP 7595, HP 7580B, HP 7585B), HPGL-S (HP 7440), HPGL/2
(HP 7600), and HPGL/RTL (HP 650C) formats. For a more complete
list of supported HPGL models, refer to the User's Guide,
Appendix D.
a. If using Windows NT 4.0, select the HP DesignJET 650c
(C2859B).
F. For Macintosh-based systems:
If the plotter has the internal PostScript compatable option installed,
use the standard Laserwriter driver that comes with the Macintosh
operating system.
1. The plotter is shipped with an installation diskette. If a
replacement is necessary, it is available on the CalComp
website (http://www.calcomp.com).). The file name is:
53XX-PPD.HQX.
The file is self-extracting. Simply double-click on the file
name icon and it will create the documentation and driver files.
Included are the neccessary PPD files. Use the MacBinary file
transfer option when downloading files for the Macintosh.
